During their Tuesday night meeting, Big Spring City Council members unanimously approved a resolution calling for the establishment of a "no-kill" animal shelter by the start of 2017.

“This is going to be a challenge for us in one year to establish a no kill center here in Big Spring, but it is something we feel sure we can make it happen as long as we can get the community involved, community education and the volunteers to work with our animal shelter,” Big Spring Mayor Larry McLellan said.
