District 4-1A recognizes Forsan Buffaloes

FORSAN — The Buffaloes will be losing some gridiron stalwarts this year, including quarterback Marcus Cervantes, safety Trevor Burchett and runningback Brendan Roman.Luckily for Head Football Coach Jason Phillips, he has more all-district selections expected to return next year than are graduating.“We had a good senior class this year,” Phillips said. “Especially with all the injuries — most of them were to seniors — but they were a big part of our success and helped us build our program. I am proud of those guys.”Burchett picked up honors on both first team defense for his role at safety and second team offense as a receiver. Roman — who despite an ongoing injury led the running game for the Buffs — was named to first team offense. Copeland Riddell earned a second team defensive linemen nod, despite battling injuries, while fellow senior Cole Long was recognized as a second team offensive tackle. Dillon Bagnall nabbed a first team spot as punter and Cervantes was an honorable mention.“It was good,” Phillips added. We have the state champs in our district (Stamford) and Anson. We were pleased with the votes we got. You always there was a couple more picks, but we are happy. It's a tough district.”Junior Ausden Medrano led the underclassmen with first team offensive and defensive selections as a lineman. Kade Fannin, also a junior, was named to second team offense as a receiver and second team defense as an inside linebacker. Juniors Polo Morin — who was also a quarterback when he was needed — was picked as a second team outside linebacker and J.T Breyman was named as second team corner. Kolby Self and Covan Davidson received honorable mentions. Two sophomores, Garret Kligora and Trevor Williams were recognized as second team inside linebacker and first team kicker, respectively.“We have a good nucleus of kids coming back next year,” Phillips said. “We are losing some good players, but we have a good group coming back, too.”
