First Presbyterian Church bidding farewell to long-time music director

Long-time First Presbyterian Church music director and organist Michael D. Mitchell will be leaving his position at the end of the month. The last Sunday in October, the worship service will be a service of music to honor Mike, followed by a catered meal, as a tribute to him.
Mitchell he has held since spring of 1994 traveling from Lubbock bi-weekly but his business is now requiring more of his attention so he tenured his registration to the church last month.
“His title does not give adequate description of the many roles that he has played in the life of the church,” said Nancy Koger, public relations representative for First Presbyterian Church. “He has guided in the making of the sanctuary into an acoustically vibrant room, in finding and restoring the chapel organ, in consulting on many of the liturgical and decorative items throughout the church, and in working to make worship services and music a compatible whole. Pastor Craig Holstedt, as well as former pastors, has said, ‘Mike is not only our musician; he is like an associate pastor.’”
