Howard College President Dr. Cheryl Sparks will speak about the the hiring process for the new college/county librarian during the upcoming Friends of the Library meeting.
Friends of the Library will meet at 5:15 p.m. Thursday in the basement of the Howard County Library, 500 S. Main St. The Friends of the Library supports the community library’s programs such as the Summer Reading Program.
Earlier this year, college trustees and Howard County Commissioners — the governing body for Howard County which oversees the community library program — agreed to share a head librarian to over see all of the college’s academic libraries and the community library. Part of the new duties for the new hire will be to research merging the two programs with the college overseeing a hybrid community/academic library on the Big Spring campus. That announcement has caused concern within the community.
