Jean Range

Jean Range, 89, of Big Spring, died Friday, April 25, 2014 at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. A Remembrance Service will be held on May 9, 2014 at 1st United Methodist Church Garrett Hall at 5:00 PM. She will be laid to rest at the National Cemetery at Dallas/Ft. Worth.Jean was born March 17, 1925 in Clarendon, Texas to Loxie Mae Boles and June W. Taylor. She married Edgar Byron Range, Jr. on March 17, 1947 and he preceded her in death on September 28, 2012.Jean Range graduated with teaching degree from West Texas State Teachers College at Canyon, taught one year, married Byron in1947, moved to Shamrock in 1951, raised six children, served as Cub Scout Den Mother and Girl Scout leader for a decade, and kept books for veterinary practice for 23 years and a recognition award from Eastern Star. She was a historian being a descendant from the Cherokee Indian Nation and the Charles Goodnight’s family. She was an avid reader including Shakespeare, loved watching Texas Rangers baseball, was selfless to a fault, was filled with grace and love for all God's creation.Jean obtained an undergraduate degree from West Texas A&M in English and Spanish. Her post graduate master degrees from Texas A&M and Southeastern Oklahoma State University include English Literature, Speech Therapy and Special Education Certification. She dedicated 20 years of her life to the teaching of Special Education and Speech Therapy. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Philathea Sunday School class. She is survived by one daughter: Diane Range Murphy of Big Spring; three sons: Paul Range of Floresville, TX, Stephen Range of Woodway, TX and Daniel Range of Kemp, TX. She was preceded in death by June and Loxie Mae Taylor, her husband E. Byron Range, Jr.; and two sons: Major David Range and Captain Philip Range and one grandson Ben Range.Arrangements are by Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
