Sugar's Bar is presenting and hosting a live action, brisket dinner, and live music event on Saturday, Dec. 5 to raise money for Blantyn Gusman. Blantyn was left severely injured in a car accident this summer and since the accident, the community has been rallying around the Gusman family to help raise funds for medical bills, a vehicle that will fit his wheelchair, and other miscellaneous items to help improve Blantyn's quality of life. “The Big Spring student council and the Big Spring Greater Rotary Club have been amazing to us, along with the Big Spring football team. The entire community has pulled together,” said Michelle Gusman, Blantyn's mother. The fundraiser event at Sugar's Bar will start at 2 p.m. with brisket being served. At 5 p.m. the auction will start, and from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., music featuring Eddie Austin among other acts will be featured, according to a flyer. “We have so many cool things to auction off,” said Michelle. “Among other things, KBEST is donating a guitar signed by 11 Texas country artists.” According to Barney Dodd, sales manager at KBEST, the guitar will be signed by the likes of Adam Fears, Aaron Einhouse, Steve Helms, Bobby Duncan, Randy Brown, Mike Ryan, Larry Joe Taylor, William Clark Green, Dave Perez (Tejas Brothers), Tyler and the Tribe, and Jason Eady. Michelle said that other items up for bid include three months of MMA, Ace Little from KBEST is auctioning off the opportunity to broadcast a Howard College basketball half with him, a massage from My Favorite Place, services from One Way Salon, tools from Sears, dinner for four at the Big Spring Country Club, items from Harley Davidson, various gift baskets, and “a few other things that they are working on”. According to Michelle, the proceeds from the event at Sugar's Bar will go towards buying a special shower chair for Blantyn, getting a ramp put in front of the Gusman home, getting their front door widened, and buying a chair that Blantyn can control a bit better. “He has a power chair, but he needs a chair with better grips and an electric drive so he can control it,” said Michelle. “The chair will be anywhere from $10,000-$15,000. His shower chair will cost nearly $4,000, and of course the main things add up such as medical bills and gas to get to Lubbock and San Angelo for appointments.” Sugar's Bar is located at 3430 E. I-20 in Big Spring, Texas. According to a Sugar's Bar employee, those under 21 will be allowed in for the food and auction but will be asked to leave “when it starts to get dark”.
