Opal Jean Magers

Opal Jean Magers, 80, of Big Spring died Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Kristi Lee Manor Nursing Home in Colorado City. The family will receive friends 7 p.m. until 9 p.m Friday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013, at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church. Officiating will be Pastor William T. Vaughn of Mt Bethel Baptist Church and Pastor Holston Banks of Shiloh House of Praise with burial at Trinity Memorial Park.Opal was born June 5, 1932, in Spur, Texas, to Mary and Matthew Scott. She married Ellihue Magers on June 5, 1955, in San Angelo, Texas. He preceded her in death July 7, 2006.Opal worked as a cook at the Big Spring State Hospital and Scenic Mountain Medical Center before retiring. She was a member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church and was active in missions and on the usher board. Her hobbies included cooking and crocheting.Opal is survived by six children, Eugene Scott of Big Spring, Sandra Magers of Charlotte, N.C., Rose Magers Powell of Huntsville, Ala., James Magers of Big Spring, Linda Magers of Tampa, Fla., and Nannie Lee Magers of Tuskofee, Ala.; one brother, Matthew Scott of Corinth, Texas; one sister, Lilly Josey of San Angelo, Texas; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.In addition to her parents and husband, Opal was preceded by one son, John Magers; and a daughter, Lena Magers.Pallbearers are Ronnie Forman, Lonnie Green, Vicky Woodruff, Jason Woodruff, John Sykes and Sam Johnson.Arrangements are by Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
