A 15-year-old girl who had taken her parents' vehicle without consent led police on a chase which ended with the vehicle rolling over Wednesday evening.
According to a news release from the Big Spring Police Department, at approximately 5 p.m Wednesday, officers responded to a report from a complainant that their 15-year-old daughter had left the residence with the parents' vehicle.
The officers located the vehicle around two and a half hours later heading west on a service road of I-20.
“At approximately 7:30 p.m, a patrol officer attempted to stop the stolen vehicle on the service road of I-20,” stated a Big Spring Police Department media release. “The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and merged on to I-20 near Highway 176, going west and refusing to stop for the marked unit.”
After refusing to stop, the 15-year-old continued at a “high rate of speed” where the vehicle would sometimes reach speeds of 100 miles per hour before the driver lost control and drifted off the road.
The vehicle eventually left the roadway and rolled, the police said. When officers approached the vehicle they found that there was another 15-year-old girl in the vehicle along with the 15-year-old driver.
“Both girls were taken to Midland Memorial Hospital and were treated and released to their parents,” stated the media release. “The case will be forwarded to juvenile authorities.”
