State Senator Kel Seliger (R-Amarillo) will be in town Wednesday to meet with citizen’s during a town hall meeting.
The meeting will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Hall Center for the Arts on the Howard College campus
Seliger serves District 31 which stretches from the Panhandle south to parts of the Permain Basin including Howard County. He was first elected in 2004. On Thursday, Seliger along with state Reps. Tom Craddick and Brooks Landgraf were honored by officials from the University of Texas Permian Basin and Texas Tech University Health Science Centers for securing $62 millions for construction of a new building for the each of the campuses during the last legislative session.
The funding comes from House Bill 100 which authorized $3.1 billon worth of construction bonds on Texas four-year university and college campuses. UTPB received $48 million and Texas Tech received $14 million.
However in that same legislative session, community colleges lost $24 million in funding state-wide. Howard College — the venue for Wednesday’s town hall — itself saw a drop of $1.14 million to be spread over the next two years.
