Shackelford honored for Air Force service

Today he cares for Big Spring's children after school as director of the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club, but for more than 15 years, Duane Shackelford was a member of the United States Air Force, serving our country in such far-flung locations as Okinawa, Japan; Anchorage, Alaska; and Bahrain. Tuesday evening, Shackelford was recognized for his service as Hangar 25's Honored Veteran for February.
"I was in the Air Force for 15 years, two months, and 25 days. I retired as an E-6 Tech Sergeant," Shackelford said. "I spent the majority of my time working in base supply, and supplied the inventory management system."
Shackelford said his experience in the service was a great preparation for his future life.
"I think the Air Force prepared me for real life. I was a boy when I came into the military," he said...
