DAV accepting scholarship applications

The first meeting of the year was held with members placing a focus on Howard College Scholarships. Currently, the D.A.V. of Big Spring offers three $1,000 scholarships per semester for students who are veterans, the child of a veteran, or the grandchild or great-grandchild of a veteran.

"Our veterans have sacrificed for our country. They have made sacrifices and that includes missing time with their families," Senior Vice Commander of the Big Spring D.A.V. Mike Tarpley said. "By offering these scholarships it provides a way to give back to the veteran and their families in a way that helps everyone grow."

The D.A.V. began the partnership with Howard College last year in an effort to help support veterans and their families pursue higher education. Those who qualify are eligible to receive $1,000 per semester to help with their academic classes or workforce training classes.
