The Texas Department of Public Safety has issued reports on two fatal accidents which occurred on Thanksgiving Day.
According to the first report, at about 10 a.m. Thursday, Alfredo Guerrero Ariza, 27, of Denver City was driving his 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck east on Interstate 20 near mile marker 353, about three miles east of Ranger, when he traveled out of the traffic lanes into the center median. Ariza attempted to steer back into the traffic lanes, causing the vehicle to go out of control and overturn.
While Ariza was treated for non-incapacitating injuries and released, his passenger, Guadalupe Ortega Ariza, 40, of Denver City was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by Justice of the Peace Jesse Speers.Â
According to the report, Guadalupe Ariza was wearing his safety belt at the time of the accident.Â
Weather conditions were rainy and the road was wet. The accident was investigated by DPS Trooper Bobbie M. Shields of Eastland, assisted by Troopers Robert McGrath and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Trooper Brandon Smedley, both of Eastland.
