UPDATE: Brush fire south of Big Spring Tuesday afternoon contained,  crews headed home

12:30 a.m. Crews are headed home.  Some small spots burning off. Cause still unknown. 

(8:40 pm): HCVFD Chief treports this remains a contained fire, no one hurt, no structures involved (but 3 successfully defended), fire fighters on scene to mop up the remaining hot spots. Cause is "undetermined" at this report.

Local first responders, including Howard County and Glasscock County Volunteer Fire Departments, Big Spring Fire Department and Department of Public Safety troopers, responded to a fire on the east side of U.S. 87 south of Brian Road Tuesday afternoon. The fire was still active as of 5:30 p.m.; drivers should proceed with caution in the area.
