Lady Steers advance, Lady Buffs eliminated

MIDLAND — The Andrews Lady Mustangs had the Lady Steers of Big Spring right where they wanted them in game two of a best-of-three series. Up 4-0, Andrews got the first two Lady Steers out in the top of the fourth inning. When the Lady Mustangs recorded the third out, Big Spring led 14-4.
“It was absolutely crazy,” Big Spring head coach Howell Martin said. “We were behind 4-0 and had two outs and really nothing happening, and suddenly balls just started finding gaps. We hit a couple, they walked a couple, and they made an error here and there…so we just kept putting the ball in play and kept scoring runs. They finally changed pitchers, we continued to hit the ball and when they finally got us out it was 14-4.”
It all started with the freshman heroes from game one starting the rally. Logan Terrazas and Kamri Kemper scored the game-ending runs in game one after Kemper followed Terrazas’s double with a walk-off home run. With two outs in the top of the fourth of game two, they delivered with back-to-back singles. MaKenzie Roberts walked to load the bases, and an error by the shortstop on a ball hit by Mariah Sarmiento brought Big Spring’s first run home.
