The 20th Annual Pops in the Park set for Monday, July 3, is quickly approaching.
“The Pops in the Park mission is to give back to those who have served our country and pay tribute to them for their selfless sacrifice as well as the sacrifices of their families,” said Hayley Herrera, a member of the Pops in the Park committee in a news release. “Pops in the Park combines a family-friendly atmosphere in the historic and beautiful Comanche Trail Amphitheater with world-class music provided by our pre-show entertainment, Vocal Trash, and the Big Spring Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. We cap off the event with a spectacular display of choreographed fireworks from one of the nation’s leaders in pyrotechnics.”
Thousands of people attend the event yearly pushing the park to its capacity. Besides the activity at the Amphitheater, many others choose to picnic in one of the lawns the park offers and to watch the fireworks overhead.
A year's worth of planning and fundraising by the volunteer Pops in the Park committee goes into making the event a reality. In fact, rehearsals for the Chorus will begin next month with the first date on Thursday, June 8. After that, Chorus volunteers will meet weekly on Tuesdays, June 13 through June 27, at 6:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church.
“Pops in the Park is a community event and without support from the community it would not be possible,” Herrera said. “To donate please contact the Big Spring Chamber at 432-263-7641 or send donations to Pops in the Park, 215 W. 3rd-79720 or P.O. Box 1391, Big Spring 7972.”
