Coahoma Bulldogs and Bulldogettes lose to Merkel in District 6-3A play

MERKEL — The Coahoma Bulldogs lost a heartbreaker to Merkel in overtime, 51-53.

The Badgers rallied in the fourth quarter to overcome a 13-point deficit to send the game into overtime on Friday. Merkel squeaked by with two points for the win. Coahoma’s Ryan Shifflett led all scorers with 22 points including four 3-point goals. Landon Wells had 11. Billy Bailey and Boyd Cox tallied eight and seven respectively. 

Next: Coahoma (1-2, 11-8) faces Wall at 8 p.m. today at Coahoma.

BULLDOGETTES FALL TO MERKEL, 25-47

MERKEL — The Coahoma Bulldogettes dropped a district game to Merkel, 25-47, on Friday night.

Baylor Wright led the Bulldogettes in points. She netted seven including one three-point goal. 

Shae Lang and Analyse Mendoza had five points each and Isabella Cox tallied four. The JV girls team also lost.

Next: Coahoma (1-4, 8-13) hosts Wall for a District 6-3A match today at the Coahoma Elementary School competition gym. The JV team plays at 4 p.m. and the varsity game begins at 6:30 p.m.
